This room has many names: two of its famous occupants were Mary and Grandma Gatschene. You're looking at the garage at the Hammer's. Their upstairs had an apartment where Dick Hammer's mother lived for a time. Dick tells the story of going over there in college to retrieve some chairs that Mrs. Hammer wanted him to have for his apartment. While he didn't like the apartment, he admired a half-round chair which she gave him. Today, it sits in his living room long after he refinished it and Pietrina embroidered the cushions. |
